When filtering turbid water, the life of your Hiker filter element can be greatly decreased.  Paper elements usually can't be cleaned, so you're left with having to replace them.  The solution is the Katadyn Hiker Field Maintenance Kit.   It extends your paper filters life by adding a sleeve of very fine mesh around the paper element.  This fine mesh is very durable and can be scrubbed clean while in the field to get you pumping again.

The Hiker Pro Microfilter already comes with the Field Maintenance Kit, but this product works with it as well if you need replacement elements for your tried and true filter.
